          Marie Pfungst's Biography

          German-Jewish suffragette and entrepreneur committed to women’s rights who founded numerous women’s associations and promoted numerous Jewish and non-Jewish social projects.
          In 1902 Marie Pfungst founded the Association of Frankfurt Women’s Associations, which she led for 20 years. In 1912, after the death of her brother Arthur Joseph Pfungst, she took over the management of the Naxos-Union company, manufacturer of abrasives and grinding machines. In 1918, together with her mother, she founded the Arthur Pfungst Foundation. She led the company until 1935 very successfully.
          After the Nuremberg Laws came into force she handed over the management of the company to Rudolf Herbst. In September 1942 she was deported to the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp, where she died on 8 February 1943, aged 80.
