          Maria von Linden's Biography

          German zoologist.
          In 1892 Maria von Linden was the first female student at the University of Tübingen and in 1895 she was the first woman in Germany entitled Doctor Scientiae Naturalis. Then she worked as a research assistant at the Hygiene Institute of the University of Bonn. There she was looking especially for ways of combating tuberculosis. She discovered the antiseptic action of copper, which was then used by the company Paul Hartmann in Heidenheim for producing sterile dressings and sutures.
          In 1910 Linden was the first woman entitled of “professor” at the University of Bonn.
          She died 25 August 1936 in Schaan ,Liechtenstein.
