          Maria Montessori's Biography

          Italian educator who was the first woman in Italy to receive a medical degree, in 1895. She worked primarily with children experiencing some form of cognitive delay, illness, or disability in Rome tenements and gradually evolved her own teaching method. She established an international reputation in 1912 with her book “The Montessori Method,” which was printed in English.
          Maria Montessori had one child, but never married. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 6 May 1952 at the age of 81 in Noordwijk aan Zee, the Netherlands.
