          Major Edward Bowes's Biography

          American broadcaster, corporate executive and program director who was one of the first to encourage radio commentary. He conducted an Amateur Hour from 1934-1946, which was voted the most popular show on the air in 1935. Bowes gained his name from being a Major in WWI.
          Major Bowes died on 13 June 1946 on the eve of his 72nd birthday at his home in Rumson, New Jersey.
