American co-founder of the study of organizational behaviour and co-author of many books of management, ranging from Managerial Thinking: An International Study (1966, with Mason Hair and Edwin E. Ghiselli) to Management (2005, with Michael A. Hittt and Stewart Black).
He was the dean of the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine from 1972 to 1983.
Porter died on 2 July 2015 in Newport Beach, California, aged 85.
