          Louise Bresslau-Hoff's Biography

German writer and poet who in 1908 married Ernst Bresslau, a lecturer of Zoology at the University of Strasbourg and later a professor at the University of Cologne (1925). The couple had four children. Since her husband, a baptized Jew, was dismissed in 1933 from the civil service because of Nazi racist laws, the family emigrated to Brazil in 1934, where Ernst Bresslau was appointed to the founding committee of the newly established University of São Paulo.
After the sudden death of her husband in May 1935, Bresslau-Hoff had to sell her husband’s extensive library of books, rent out rooms in her house and conduct private lessons. Louise Bresslau-Hoff ran a reading group, and wrote poems and stories. She died in 1966 in São Paulo.
