          Louis Thevenet's Biography

Belgian artist, mostly self-taught, who worked mainly in oil, but also made watercolours and drawings. He is best known for his living-room and café interiors and still lifes. He adorned his paintings with everyday objects such as a beer or wine glass, book, bottle or carafe, fruit, wall clock, winter or summer hat, coat rack with clothes, cabinet with open drawer, etcetera.
He held various jobs before devoting himself entirely to painting in 1896. These included being a bellboy, an apprentice baker and confectioner’s assistant, an assistant cook on an English boat on which he undertook several trips around the world, and a clerk in a music publishing company.
His work is a synthesis of various styles including realism, impressionism, Symbolism, Fauvism, cloisonisme, divisionism, Luminism and pointillism.
On 16 August 1930 Louis Thevenet died at the age of 56 in Halle, more than likely from a brain hemorrhage.
