          Lodewijk Van der Grinten's Biography

          Dutch pharmacist and founder of Océ that has since grown ino a multinational company that develops, manufactures and sells printing and copying hardware and related software.
          Van der Grinten started a pharmacy in Venlo in 1857. In addition to his pharmacy store, he also had an interest in chemistry and developed a substance to produce margarine, a cheap replacement of butter, that gave the colour of butter. In 1877, the year considered as the start year of Océ, Van der Grinten began to market his butter dye. After Van der Grinten passed away, his third son, Frans van der Grinten, took over the pharmacy company, and developed the business into a buttercraft factory. Eventually, the company manufactured copiers under the brand name Océ.
          He died on 11 April 1895, aged 64.
