Dutch actress, disk-jockey, television presenter and publisher of the glossy Linda.
Linda is the sister of media tycoon John de Mol (1955). Their father was the singer, accordionist and businessman in the music industry Johannes Hendrikus (John) de Mol (28 December 1931, Den Haag – 27 September 2013, Laren). Little is known of their mother.
She made her television debut at the age of 12 in “Wat je zegt ben je zelf”, a programme made by children for the AVRO. Before that she was an anonymous member of the AVRO’s children choir. She studied Law at the University of Amsterdam (1982-85), but stopped her study to become a host of the The DJ Kat Show of Sky Channel (1985). She became a Cable One radio and television presenter for the popular TROS broadcasting company.
In Germany she presented Traumhochzeit, de German version of Love Letters. In 2006 she joined her brothers company Talpa, after 26 June 2007 she went to RTL.
She became a cult figure, like Oprah she owns her own glossy Linda. According to quote she earns one million Euro per year.
Personal
On 23 August 1991 she married the elder jeweler Fred Reuter, with whom she felt in love with at age 19. Begin June 1995 she decided to separate from him. In September 1995 the divorce was final. Because of Linda’s career in Germany (“Traumhochzeit”) their ways were driven apart, Linda said to Story journalist Henk van der Meijden.
Since 1995, De Mol had a relationship with director Sander Vahle, a year later they moved in together. Together they had a son Julian (29 March 1997) and a daughter Noa. (30 November 1999). On October 31, 2007 it was announced that De Mol and Vahle were split up. Since 2007, De Mol relationship with pianist and composer Jeroen Rietbergen (19 april 1971, Vlissingen).
When being interviewed about the television series Divorce in which she played the role of a divorcing female cardiologist she said: “Ik ben nooit lang single geweest, ging eigenlijk, na het verdriet over de breuken, van de ene lange relatie in de andere.” (I’ve never been single a long time, actually I went after the grief about the fracture of one long relationship over to another.)
In 2011 Linda de Mol became an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Since October 2013, her brother John received extortion letters, in which Linda and her children were threatened and a sum of money was demanded. A 70 year old man from Zeist was arrested in December 2014.
