Lia Eibenschütz's Biography
German film, stage and voice actress, who appeared in more than 40 films in a 50-year career spanning the years from 1919 to 1969.
She was of Austro-Hungarian ancestry. She studied music and worked as a pianist. During a concert tour she was discovered in Berlin and debuted in 1919 as an actress. In the 1920s she appeared in many silent films as a young woman in love.
Married to the actor Kurt Vespermann, she retreated in the 1930s more and more into private life and devoted herself to the education of her son, the future actor Gerd Vespermann. Since she was considered a “half-Jew”, she was expelled from the Reichstheaterkammer in 1937. After the end of the Second World War, she took a few small roles in German film productions and appeared again in Berlin as a theater actress, for example, at the Renaissance-Theater. Occasionally, she also worked as a voice actress, as in the movie Life and Death of Colonel Blimp.
She died on 9 March 1985, aged 85, in Berlin, Germany.
