          Leopold Ferdinand Dentz's Biography

          Dutch physician, an ophthalmologist specialised in heterotropia (squint).
          Leopold Dentz was the son of the dentist Simon Nathan Dentz and Rebekka Salomons. He studied medicine in Utrecht since 24 September 1878. He graduated April 1887 at Utrecht with the thesis “Objective strabismometrie”. He first worked in Harderwijk and started May 1889 a busy doctor’s office in Helmond. He died 25 January 1903 at Helmond because of accidental blood poisoning during his work (occupational disease).
          Personal
          he had a brother Theodore Dentz (Amsterdam, 9 August 1840 – Utrecht, 29 December 1933) who also studied medicine and became a lector in Dentistry at the University of Utrecht.
          He married 1887 at Utrecht Johanna Maria van Overbeek de Meyer. They got four children.
          Born with Jewish ancestry, he converted in later life to Protestantism (Dutch Reformed church)
