American writer, one of the pioneering playwrights off Broadway in the early ’60s who survived and won public acceptance for his 30 plays written in less that 20 years. Following a childhood of poverty, he had a first commercial hit in 1972 with “The Hotel Baltimore.” “Talley’s Folly,” earned him a Pulitzer Prize in 1980.
The playwright died from complications of pneumonia on March 24, 2011 in Wayne, NJ.
