          Konrad Mehus's Biography

Norwegian silversmith and craftsman who had his debut exhibition at Brukskunstforeningen, Trondheim, in 1967, and exhibited at Kunstindustrimuseet, Oslo, in 1974. He has exhibited at all three art industry museums in the country and has participated in group exhibitions in Japan, the US, the UK, and in the Nordic countries.
Mehus’ works often contain paradoxes of form, use of materials or “new juxtaposition of well-known forms. One example of this is ‘Gaffelglasset’ which, during the 1974 Artists Campaign, became the very symbol of a dawning new awareness of the independent position of handicrafts”; on a drinking glass, the stem is replaced by a gilded silver fork. The brooch “Norwegian folk medicine: Valium” is a pill box in silver-plated brass.
Mehus received the Jacob Prize in 1994 and the Artisans’ Honor Award in 2004. He has been purchased by the art industry museums, the Norwegian Council of Culture, the National Gallery, and the art museums in Tromsø and Kristiansand. The first book about him was published in Germany in 2012.
