          Knut Lindaas's Biography

Norwegian resistance member and pilot officer during World War II. At the beginning of the war his illegal resistance activities made him a wanted and he had to flee to Great Britain in the spring of 1941. He then left for Canada and trained as a pilot at Little Norway, becoming a British squadron bomber pilot.
On 26 November 1943, on his 17th mission, over Frankfurt am Main, his plane was hit badly. Lindaas ordered the rest of the crew to get out in their parachutes, while he himself was killed when the plane crashed. After the war he was posthumously awarded the War Cross with Sword, the highest ranking Norwegian gallantry decoration.
