          Knut Erik Tranøy's Biography

          Norwegian philosopher and professor. Together with almost 700 other male students he was arrested on 30 November 1943 and sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany where he sat until the end of the war in 1945.
          He was professor at the University of Bergen for 19 years and at the University of Oslo from 1978 to 1986. His main contributions have been in fields of ethics, particularly in medicine and science. He was a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters from 1979. He was decorated as Knight 1st Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 2002.
          Tranøy died on 19 March 2012, aged 93.
