          King of Bhutan Jigme Singye's Biography

          Bhutanese monarch, who served as the fourth King of Bhutan (Druk Gyalpo) from 24 July 1972 until his abdication in favour of his eldest son, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, on 9 December 2006. He is credited with many modern reforms in the country.
          Jigme Singye Wangchuck was born at Dechencholing Palace to Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck. He received western and traditional learning in various institutions, including Dechencholing Palace, St. Joseph’s School at Darjeeling in India, Heatherdown School in England, Namselling Palace, and Ugyen Wangchuck Academy at Satsham Choten in Paro.
          He has four wives and ten children. Since his abdication his title has been styled as King Jigme Singye, The Fourth Druk Gyalpo, The King Father of Bhutan.
