          Karl Reschke's Biography

          German surgeon and university lecturer. Karl Reschke studied classical philology and medicine at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Berlin, where he earned his PhD in medicine in 1913. After that he was until 1918 Resident at the Charité in Berlin. In 1914-1915 he served as a sub-doctor in a military hospital. From 1918 he was a medical assistant at the Surgical University Hospital Greifswald. He habilitated there in 1921 and four years later became a professor. From 1932 to 1935 Reschke was medical director and chief physician of the surgical department at the Bethanien (Berlin). In 1935 he was appointed as Professor of Surgery in Greifswald. For the three academic years from 1936 to 1939 he was appointed rector of the university. During the Second World War he was senior medical officer in the Wehrbezirkskommando Greifswald.
          He died on 20 February 1941 in Greifswald, aged 54.
