          Karl Nieberle's Biography

          German veterinarian, professor then dean of animal pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Leipzig. In 1934 he was elected to the German Academy of Natural Sciences Leopoldina. He wrote the standard work of animal pathology, Lehrbuch der speziellen pathologischen Anatomie der Haustiere (Textbook of the special pathological anatomy of pets). His work on the control of tuberculosis in animals was a breakthrough. Of the 130 doctoral theses under his leadership, 54 were concerned with tuberculosis. He was a member of the NSDAP (Nazi Party), openly advocating a strict separation of political activities and studies. He died on 12 January 1946 in Pfullingen, aged 69.
