Belgian physicist and conjurer, who co-founded the Théâtre Grandsart-Courtois with her husband, André-Joseph Grandsart.
The daughter of Louis Courtois, known as “Papa Courtois,” she followed in his footsteps. She performed on stage at the age of 22 when she toured Nantes in February 1836. She then followed her father to Paris and staged a performance there in 1837 at the ‘théâtre du Gymnase musical.’
Later, with her husband, she performed before the royal courts and high families of Western Europe. After having demonstrated her talent as a magician before Napoleon III, she took the title, with her husband of ‘Physicien et physicienne’ to the Emperor Napoleon III.
She died in Brussels in 1880.
