          Juan Carlos Ferrando's Biography

          Peruvian activist for LGBT rights and a pioneering drag queen in his country, also noted as the youngest son of the popular television presenter Augusto Ferrando.
          Juan Carlos Ferrando studied film and television production with the BBC. Besides England, he lived in Switzerland, Germany, Costa Rica, Colombia and the United States.
          At the age of 22, he debuted in the drag queen scene, supported by his father, who featured him in his television shows Trampolín a la fama and La Peña Ferrando. In 2000 he came out as gay in an interview with Beto Ortiz.
          In 2002, together with the Lima Homosexual Movement, he organized the first gay pride march in Peru, held in Lima.
          In 2014, at the age of 63, he moved with Alfredo Caballero Rayter, his partner for more than 35 years, to the province of Pacasmayo. He died at the age of 69 at his residence in Jequetepeque on 5 May 2020 due to complications from diabetes.
