Mexican-American actor, singer and reality television personality, nicknamed “Johnny” or “El Cinco”, he is the fifth and youngest child of singer Jenni Rivera and the second child of her second husband, Juan López, after whom he was named.
His mother gave birth to her first child, Janney, better known as Chiquis, (born 1985), while still in high school. She later married the baby’s father, José Trinidad Marín, and they had two more children: Jacqueline (born 1989) and Michael (born 1991), but she ended the marriage in 1992 citing physical and emotional abuse.
Juan Ángel’s parents married in 1997. His sister Jenicka was born in 1997 and his parents divorced in 2003. In 2007, his father was convicted of selling drugs. He died from complications of pneumonia while in prison in 2009.
His mother married baseball player Esteban Loaiza in 2010. They filed for divorce in 2012 just months before her death, but it was never finalized. His mother, along with six others, died in a plane crash near Monterrey, Mexico on 6 December 2012 when he was 11.
From 5 March to 11 August 2013 Juan Ángel López appeared in I Love Jenni, an American reality television series on Universo, which documents the personal and professional life of his mother and those close to her.
From 16 October 2016 to 17 November 2019 he also co-starred in The Riveras, a spin-off of I Love Jenni which follows the five children of Jenni Rivera as they begin to pursue their dreams and continue to honor Rivera’s legacy.
Openly bisexual, he dated influencer Joaquín Navarro from 2017 to 2019.
