          Joseph Würschmidt's Biography

          German physicist who worked as a private lecturer from 1911, and from 1916 as associate professor at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen. On 5 July 1919, he was appointed a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Also in 1919 he moved as a professor to the Free University of Commerce, industry and general education in Nuremberg. In 1924 he was still associate professor of physics at the University of Cologne, before he followed the call of Richard Gans, director of the physical institute at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, to Argentina and from 1925 was director of the physical institute at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. In 1949 he was named president of that university before he died on 6 July 1950, aged 64.
