Jorunn Kirkenær's Biography
Norwegian dancer, choreographer, and ballet educationalist who was considered one of the leading figures of ballet and dance in Norway. In 1966 she founded Ballettinstituttet (The ballet institute), which became the Norwegian Ballet Academy in 1981, and the Norwegian College of Dance in 2011. For her contribution to dance she was awarded the King’s Medal of Merit (gold), in 1996.
Kirkenær died on 22 January 2021 aged 94.
