          Jorge Guillermo Leguia's Biography

Peruvian historian. He studied at the College of Labarthe, and then entered the University of San Marcos, where he received his doctorate in Literature. He worked sporadically in the newspaper El Tiempo (1917-1920) and the Peruvian Mercury (1918-1930). After the coup d’etat by Augusto Leguia B on July 4, 1919, he became private secretary of the president. His father, meanwhile, was nomineted as Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Government, triggering a severe political repression against opponents of the regime. Through the pages of the newspaper La Prensa (the government had taken to their rightful owners), Jorge Guillermo made a systematic dissemination of studies and documents, under the title “Historical Domingos” (1921-1923). When the break occurred between President Leguia and his father, and subsequent imprisonment and exile of it, Jorge Guillermo accompanied his father on his ostracism in Panama. There he worked as a journalist and teaching (1923-1927). When his father was seriously ill, he was allowed to return to Lima, he followed him, accompanied him to the last moment of his life. After the fall of President Leguia, he was appointed Secretary General of the University of San Marcos (1930-1932) and Professor of American History of the same university (1931-1934). He also directed the Library of the Republic, a collection of books on Peruvian themes (1928-1931).
He died prematurely on 28 January 1934.
