          Johnny Pevik's Biography

Norwegian resistance fighter of the second world war as part of Kompani Linge. He was born in Idaho, but grew up in Nord-Trøndelag after his family returned to Norway in 1917.
At the time of the outbreak of the war, Pevik worked as a carpenter and with the German invasion of the country he was serving as a neutrality guard. He was captured and taken prisoner, but after three days he managed to escape.
During the war Pevik worked as a courier between Trondheim and Stockholm. In 1942 he travelled to England and joined Kompani Linge. In 1943 he smuggled weapons from Shetland, Scotland.
On the night of 7 October 1943, Pevik took part in an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Norwegian Gestapo agent Henry Rinnan.
On 10 November 1943 Pevik was arrested after a misunderstanding when he together with Knut Brodtkorb Danielsen contacted the home front in Harran who mistook them for being part of Rinnan’s group of provocateurs. Danielsen escaped but Pevik was sent to Trondheim where he was tortured at the Gestapo headquarters.
On 19 November 1944 Pevik was hanged after direct orders from Gestapo head Gerhard Flesch who personally led the execution. According to German witnesses in the trial against Flesch after the war, Pevik was executed without sentencing.
Pevik was posthumously awarded the St. Olav’s Medal with Oak Branch. A street next to Havstein church in Trondheim is also named after him.
