          John Henry Nash's Biography

          Canadian printer who began his business of printing fine books in 1916, rarely exceeding 1,000 copies. His printing of Manly Hall’s “Encyclopedia of Symbolical Philosophy” sold for $100 a copy.
          He left high school at the age of sixteen and became an apprentice in the shop of James Murray, one of the leading printers in Toronto. He arrived in San Francisco in 1895 after learning the printer’s trade.
          During the late 1920s Nash established the John Henry Nash Fine Arts Press at the University of Oregon in Eugene, where students under his direction produced many examples of fine printing. In 1938 Nash relocated permanently to Eugene with his printing press and library in tow. John Henry Nash returned to Berkeley, California in 1943, where he remained until his death in 1947.
