          Johan Buziau's Biography

Dutch comedian and revue artist who was the undisputed Dutch clown of popular comedy during the period between the two world wars. His humour was based on his white painted face, perfect timing and dry observations.
Archival research has revealed that Buziau was barely literate; he could write only a few words.
In May 1942, Buziau, along with many other popular Dutch artists, was detained by the Germans in the hostage camp in Haaren. After he was released he performed no more, because the events of the War had touched him deeply. However, from 1943, one of his followers, Toon Hermans, created a furore with his Buziau imitation.
Buziau died in Rijswijk on 3 February 1958, aged 81.
