          Johan Borgen's Biography

          Norwegian author, journalist, and critic.
          Under the pseudonym of Mumle Gåsegg (Mumble Goose-egg) he wrote shorter articles in the newspaper Dagbladet, particularly during World War II. His articles were ironic and derogatory of the Nazi government, and he kept this up for a long time before being found out. Although in the end he was caught and sent to the prison camp Grini.
          His best-known work is the novel Lillelord (1955). Borgen was editor of the literary magazine Vinduet (“The Window”) 1954-1959. In 1967 he was awarded the Nordic Council Literature Prize for his Nye Noveller (“New Short Stories”).
          Johan Borgen was married twice, first in 1928 to Ruth Bergljot Engelstad, then in 1934 to Annemarta Evjenth with whom he had two daughters, Brett and Ane.
          Borgen died on 16 October 1979. He was 77.
