          Jill Gascoine's Biography

          British writer and actress known for her dramatic roles portraying women as efficient and intelligent professionals. Gascoine is best known for playing the lead role of Detective Inspector Maggie Forbes in the TV series The Gentle Touch (1980-1984) and its spin-off series C.A.T.S. Eyes (1985-1987). Following this, she then appeared as Judy Schwartz in the final series of the sitcom Home to Roost (1989–1990) opposite John Thaw. After starting a career in writing, her third novel was published in 1997.
          In 1982 she met Shakespearean actor Alfred Molina, and they married in 1986; they moved to Los Angeles in 1993. Gascoine fought clinical depression throughout her career and used alternative medicine to contain kidney cancer that was diagnosed in 1997; the disease was detected early and she made a full recovery. In June 2013, Gascoine publicly revealed that she had Alzheimer’s disease. On 29 April 2020, Gascoine died after a long illness at a care home in Los Angeles, California at the age of 83.
