          Jeanne-Claude's Biography

          French Moroccan-American conceptual artist who worked together with her husband Christo to create environmental works of art. She sometimes called herself Mrs Christo. Their works include the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin (1995) and the Pont-Neuf bridge in Paris (1985), the 39 km-long artwork called Running Fence in Sonoma and Marin counties in California (1976), and The Gates in New York City’s Central Park (2005).
          Christo and Jeanne-Claude married on 28 November 1959. Their son, Cyril, later a writer and filmmaker, was born on 11 May 1960.
          On 14 March 1984, Jeanne-Claude became a U.S. citizen; she held dual U.S. and French citizenship. Jeanne-Claude died in New York City on 18 November 2009 at age 74 from complications due to a brain aneurysm. Her body was donated to science, one of her wishes.
