          Jean Timmermans's Biography

          Belgian mathematician, who served as professor at the College of Ghent and at the Atheneum of Tournai from 1822 to 1826. In 1830 he stopped his teaching assignments and joined the army. He became a captain and commanded the companies of Tournai and Ostend. In 1831, one of his publications received an award from the Académie royale des Sciences et Belles-Lettres de Bruxelles. He was appointed to this institution on 12 October 1833. In the same year he became professor of analysis and rational mechanics at the University of Ghent. In 1838 he became a school inspector at the preparatory school for civil engineering. He was part of the city council of the city of Ghent for a few years. He died in Ghent on 31 August 1864.
