          Jean Reynaud's Biography

          French socialist philosopher.
          Reynaud was a member of the Saint-Simonian community. He was a co-founder of the Encyclopédie nouvelle.
          He studied at the Royal College of Lyon on the advice of his mentor Merlin de Thionville, then he entered the Polytechnic School, and became a mining engineer. During the revolution of 1848, he was sent by the voters of the Moselle to the Constituent Assembly, was appointed Under Secretary of State for the Public Education. Appointed councilor of state in 1849, he did not stay long in this position.
          His most important book is “Earth and Sky”, 1854.
          He died 28 July 1863, Paris.
