          Jean Boiteux's Biography

          French swimmer and Olympic champion, the first person from France to win an Olympic gold medal in Swimming. His mother, Bienna Pélégry, swam for France at the 1924 Olympics.
          He received a gold medal in 400 m freestyle at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, and he won a bronze medal in the 4 x 200 m freestyle relay with the French team (with Joseph Bernardo, Aldo Eminente and Alexandre Jany).
          The Jean-Boiteux Grand Prix swimming meet in Bordeaux, was started by him in 1973 and is now name after him. Boiteux died after falling from a tree in his garden on April 11, 2010 at the age of 76.
