Jean (1919) Martin's Biography
American singer and actor who moved from Texas to New York and worked in radio and television during the 1950s. She had her own show called Jean Martin Sings on ABC, which ran for 26 weeks. Martin’s recordings included: Who He’s; Another Door Opens; Yum, Yum, Yummy and Tanto-Tanto. She also released an album called Please Be Gentle With Me that was re-released in 2013.
Her third married was to William Black, who was the founder of the Chock full o’Nuts restaurant chain and coffee brand. Martin appeared on several of Black’s sponsored radio and television shows and sang the “Heavenly Coffee” jingle. The marriage between Black and Martin produced a daughter but did not last, they parted in 1960 and in 1961 the couple divorced.
Jean Martin died on 2 March 2004 in New York, aged 84.
