James Broughton's Human Design Chart

Most of his life was spent in, or near, San Francisco, where his first books, films and plays were produced. After receiving a B.A. from Stanford University, he went into the Merchant Marines, then writing and theater.
Broughton was bisexual. In 1962 he married Sazanna Hart and had two kids with her. He had an earlier daughter, Gina, in 1948 with film critic Pauline Kael (born 1919). In 1973, he met the Canadian film student Joel Singer (born 1948) and lived with him until his death.
He relates that he was told by an angel at age three to become a poet. Broughton died on 17 May 1999 in Port Townsend, Washington, age 85.
