          Hermann Weyl's Biography

          German mathematician and theoretical physicist.
Weyl was one of the most influential mathematicians of the twentieth century, and an important member of the Institute for Advanced Study during its early years.
Weyl published technical and some general works on space, time, matter, philosophy, logic, symmetry and the history of mathematics. The outstanding characteristic of Weyl’s work was his ability to unite previously unrelated subjects. He was one of the first to conceive of combining general relativity with the laws of electromagnetism. His research has had major significance for theoretical physics as well as purely mathematical disciplines including number theory.
At age 28 he became professor of mathematics at the Technische Hochschule, Zürich, where he was a colleague of Albert Einstein.
He left Germany in 1933 to accept an offer of permanent membership of the newly founded Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
He died in Zürich suddenly, of a heart attack, on 9 December 1955.
There are 35 topics named after Hermann Weyl.
