          Hermann Diesener's Biography

German artist, metal sculptor, goldsmith, metal arts teacher, and dissident who opposed the Nazis.
From 1920 to 1930 he received his artistic education at the State Academy of Arts and Crafts in Wroclaw, as a student of Johannes Molzahn. From 1930 to 1938 he worked as a freelance metal sculptor. As an opponent of the National Socialists (Nazis), he was persecuted and relieved of his teaching duties at the master school.
In 1942 Diesener was drafted into the Wehrmacht. In 1943 he married Ingeborg Bauer and they had a son and a daughter. Diesener spent time in captivity, from which he was released in 1945. Until his death on 13 September 1978, Hermann Diesener lived with his family in Bamberg.
Two years after his death, in 1980, an exhibition was dedicated to him at Bamberg’s state gallery and the cultural department of Bamberg published a monograph on him and his work.
