          Herbert Noth's Biography

German architect and university teacher who designed residential and commercial buildings including a multi-storey carpark, factories and administrative offices.
After attending school and graduating from high school in Berlin-Schmargendorf, Noth completed an internship as a bricklayer. This was followed by studying architecture at the Technical University of Munich, which he interrupted after the preliminary examination to do an internship as a carpenter in Berlin. After graduating in 1930, he worked independently in Austria and Switzerland until 1933.
Noth had his own office in Berlin-Charlottenburg until the beginning of the Second World War. In addition, he continued his activities in Austria and Switzerland. After the war began, he built soldiers’ homes in Norway. In 1940 he established a branch office in Prerow and in 1943 moved his entire office there. From 1946 he again had his own studio in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
On 15 October 1946, he was appointed associate professor at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts for the areas of design, agricultural settlements, heating and ventilation. In 1950 he was appointed full professor of architectural design and agricultural settlements. Particularly in cooperation with the Philips company, he also designed lighting systems in buildings designed by other architects. He was a member of the Association of German Architects.
Herbert Noth was married to Nora Noth (née Gaedertz, 1904–2003), with whom he had three children, including the graphic artist Volker Noth. He died on 28 January 1967 in Günzburg at age 59.
