          Helen Gahagen Douglas's Biography

          American politician, three term Congresswoman. A former actress and singer, she was noted for her beauty. With youthful voice study, she sang as the guest artist in light opera. In August 1930, she fell in love at first sight with Melvyn Douglas and they married eight months later; two kids, 1933 and 1938. In between the kids, she made a film under her maiden name of Helen Gahagen, entitled “She.”
          Douglas moved into the political arena with the Dem. State Committee in 1941, was the delegate to the National Convention in July 1944, and served three terms as the California Rep to Congress. She died 6/28/1980 of cancer in New York, New York, age 79.
