          Heinz-Eduard Menche's Biography

          German naval officer, appointed a Rear Admiral on 20 November 1932, who served in this position in World War II. From 27 January 1941, he served as chief of the naval service in Bordeaux and from 26 November 1942 to 30 April 1943 at the same time as sea transport chief of Marseille. In the latter role, he was responsible in particular for the acquisition of French merchant ships under the Nevers Agreement (28 August 1942) and the Laval-Kaufmann Agreement (23 January 1943). On 1 May 1943, he took over the naval service of Marseille. On 1 August 1944 he was put at the disposal of the Commander in Chief of Marine Group Command West, and dismissed from active military service on 31 August 1944, and finally retired. He died on 25 December 1961 in Bad Godesberg, aged 75.
