          Heinrich Lersch's Biography

German proletarian poet and boilermaker, who described in his poems the hardness of working class life, while also addressing political issues. In some poems he glorified National Socialism (Nazism). He gave lectures to the Hitler Youth and other organizations.
At the beginning of the period of Nazism, in May 1933, he was appointed to the Prussian Academy of Arts. In October 1933 he was one of the 88 German writers who signed the pledge of loyal allegiance to Adolf Hitler. After the death of Reich President Paul von Hindenburg, on 19 August 1934 he signed a call to the cultural workers on the occasion of the “referendum” to unite the office of Chancellor and Reich President in the person of Adolf Hitler. In August 1935 Lersch joined the NSDAP (Nazi party) (membership number 3,701,750), in the same year he received the Rheinisches Literature Prize, an endowment of 200 marks.
He died on 18 June 1936 in Remagen, aged 46, from pneumonia, associated with pleurisy.
