Harve Presnell's Biography
American actor and singer with a rich baritone particularly noted for his performances in musical theater.
Trained as an opera star, the 6’4″ handsome young man wowed audiences in “The Unsinkable Molly Brown,” both on stage (1960) and on the silver screen (1964). His moving rendition of “They Call the Wind Mariah” in the 1969 movie “Paint Your Wagon” won kudos. Musical theater had more limited appeal in future years and he was seen primarily on tour. His film career was resurrected when he appeared in “Fargo” in 1996, and he turned in a strong performance as a general in “Saving Private Ryan.”
Married twice and divorced from his first wife, he had six children. He died of pancreatic cancer on June 30, 2009 in Santa Monica, CA, age 75.
