          Hans Heinrich Brockmann's Biography

          German chemist.
          From 1945 to 1972 he was director of the newly created Institute of Organic Chemistry of the University of Göttingen, where he worked as a university lecturer and researcher. In 1956 he was elected member of the Learned Academy Leopoldina.
          From fish liver oils Brockmann could isolate an active substance which was called vitamin D3. He was well known particularly in the field of antibiotic research, including with the structure elucidation and synthesis of actinomycin and related compounds.
          He died 1 May 1988.
