          Hans Gerhard Creutzfeldt's Biography

German neuropathologist, who first described the Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease. He helped to recognise this neurodegenerative disease, with Alfons Maria Jakob. With Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease the brain tissue develops holes and takes on a sponge-like texture. It is now known it is due to a type of infectious protein called a prion. Prions are misfolded proteins which replicate by converting their properly folded counterparts.
He died in Munich on 30 December 1964, aged 79.
