          Guy de Pourtalès's Biography

          Swiss author best known for his 1937 novel, La Pêche miraculeuse, which won him the Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie française.
          From the 1920s on, Pourtalès published a series of romantic biographies of musicians and also wrote essays, critiques, and journalistic pieces for a variety of French magazines, amongst them the Nouvelle Revue Française. He also began to translate the works of Shakespeare in French; his translation of Measure for Measure was performed in 1920 in Geneva and in Lausanne, and his translation of The Tempest was staged in 1929 in Monte Carlo and at the Odéon theater in Paris.
          Guy de Pourtalès died at Lausanne on 12 June 1941, aged 59.
