          Götz George's Biography

          German stage and screen actor, and the son of actor couple Berta Drews and Heinrich George. His arguably best-known role is that of Duisburg detective Horst Schimanski in the TV crime series Tatort, broadcast from 1981 to 1991. This character eventually became a cult figure in German television.
          From 22 July 1966 to 15 February 1977 he was married to the actress Loni von Friedl (born 24 July 1943), and they had one daughter Tanja-Nicole George, born in Vienna on 5 December 1966, who lives in Australia and works as a sculptor. From 1997 Götz George lived with the Hamburg journalist Marika Ullrich (born 1960); the couple married in 2014.
          Götz George died in Hamburg on 19 June 2016, at age 77, after a short illness.
