George Jr. Tobia's Biography
American entertainment lawyer with the firm of Burns and Levinson since 1992 has several high-powered deals to his credit, among which are the sale of the Jack Kerouac archives to the New York Public Library for an amount “in the seven figures” in 2001. He brokered the screenplay deal for the Steve Martin movie, “Bringing Down the House,” co-starring Queen Latifah. His clients number comedian Richard Lewis, Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Enterprises, and Los Angeles Laker Rick Fox and wife, singer/actress Vanessa Williams, authors Hunter S. Thompson and William S. Burroughs. After graduating from Boston University in 1983, he earned his law degree from the University of Chicago and became a tax attorney. In 1989, college friend Peter Filardi asked for Tobia’s help in negotiating a deal for his first script, “Flatliners,” starring Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland. After a hugely lucrative deal, Tobia returned to his tax work but called John Sampas, the executor of the Kerouac estate, and offered his services. Even as a child he wrote to baseball stars and authors and his awe of such public figures turned his career around. Tobia lives in Wayland with his son Dean (born on 5/17/2001 at 11:25 PM in Boston, MA, rated AA, from birth certificate) and his second wife Allison, born on 6/30/1964 in Woonsocket, RI according to son Dean’s birth certificate).
