          George Heard Hamilton's Biography

          American art historian, known as professor of the history of art at Yale University, 1936–1966. He completed a PhD on Eugène Delacroix in 1942. His publications include Manet and his Critics (1954), The Art and Architecture of Russia (1954, 2nd ed. 1975) (Pelican History of Art), and Painting and Sculpture in Europe, 1880-1940 (Pelican History of Art, 1967). He died in Williamstown, Massachusetts, on 29 March 2004, aged 93.
