          George Du Maurier's Biography

          Franco-British cartoonist and writer known for his work in Punch magazine and for his 1895 Gothic novel Trilby, which featured the character Svengali.
          He was the father of the actor Sir Gerald du Maurier and grandfather of the writers Angela du Maurier and Dame Daphne du Maurier and artist Jeanne du Maurier. He was also the father of Sylvia Llewelyn Davies and grandfather of the five boys who inspired J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan.
          The early loss of his left eye led to failing sight in his later years. George du Maurier died on 8 October 1896 at age 62 in London, England.
