          George (1893) Blake's Biography

          Scottish journalist, literary editor and novelist, whose The Shipbuilders (1935) is considered a significant and influential effort to write about the Scottish industrial working class. He was well known as a BBC radio broadcaster by the 1930s. Blake died in Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital on 29 August 1961, survived by his wife Eliza ‘Ellie’ Malcolm Lawson, whom he had married in 1923.
